Productive STEM Week

Author: Brian Walker

Planning Unit: KSU Administration

Major Program: Science, Engineering, and Technology

Outcome: Initial Outcome

Due to COVID-19 learning was becoming a very diffcult thing to accomplish among children.  I was conducting programming for a group online and wanted to do so much more.  The person in charged wanted her students to have a STEM week.  At first we didn't think we could pull it off becuase COVID was still in effect and things haven't been lifted.  I informed my contact that in time things were supposed to change and I told her good things come to those who wait.  Well what luck did we have!  We got word that we could do in person learning and the first thing my contact person said was that they wanted to come to our center.  This was a great opportunity to have students at our faculity.  Once the students came instruction took place and we sent out surveys to the students to get feedback on the programming being done.  Here's what they said, "Since we are back in session I would rate my trip to the center an 6/10.  Some of the stations were frustrating, but others were fun."  By gathering this data I found out that they enjoyed quite a few of the activities and wanted more each day.  This was a great way to gather feedback for future programming.  Overall the students were excited to be learning about STEM related topics and were really excited to be out of the house.  They can't wait until the next time they get to come.
