Brown Marmorated Stink bugs are becoming more of an issue each year in Kentucky.   Historically, according to data, Russell County has not shown as much of an issue with BMSB, which prompted the research study.  This past summer in conjunction with an UK PhD. student, Russell County ANR agent help to set up and monitor sticky traps for Brown Marmorated stick bugs in Russell County.

The traps were out near a commercial vegetable production area.  Weekly inspections of traps and counts for stink bugs was conducted by ANR agent.  Weekly the traps were inspected for nymph, juvenile, and adult BMSB in a effort to gain a better understanding of why Russell county numbers are below the rest of the area.  This study also was to help determine current trends and population for the area, as well as time of highest activity for the area around the production area for the 4 week time frame.  The data from the study is going to hopefully help us better understand BMSB patterns and populations, as well as gain more knowledge about their control.
