Pen Pal Program

Author: Jordan Crain

Planning Unit: Barren County CES

Major Program: Kentucky Extension Homemaker Association

Plan of Work: Making Healthy Lifestyle Choices

Outcome: Initial Outcome

In an effort to encourage positive thoughts and safely engage clientele during uncertain times, the Lake Cumberland Area FCS Agents offered Kentucky Extension Homemakers the opportunity to become involved in a Pen Pal Program. The Pen Pal Program consisted of participants completing a survey that allowed them to share their hobbies, like and dislikes, etc. Once each County had time to gather surveys from those who wished to participate, participants were paired up with a person with similar interest but someone outside of their county. Addresses were then exchanged and a participants were given stationary and a list of ideas to help them get started writing. Green County had Homemakers that signed up to participate in the Pen Pal Program. All participants have reported that they enjoyed the program and that it helped to boost their spirits during a time when they were not able to meet with others in person. They have continued to keep in touch with their Pen Pals and plan to keep it up in the months to come.
