In an effort to offer useful programs in a safe and creative way, the Green County Family and Consumer Sciences Agent and the Green County Youth Services Center partnered together to offer a series of programs that went "Back to the Basics". The first topic was Measuring Savvy. For this session, participants were invited to stop by the Green County Extension Office for a "To Go" bag containing informational publications on how to measure correctly when cooking in the kitchen. The bag also included needed utensils and ingredients to practice with. Once the bags were distributed, participants were asked to tune into Facebook to watch a video demonstration on how to correctly measure and how to use the utensils provided in the bag. Twenty bags were picked up and approximately two hundred fifteen individuals were able to view the video. Of the twenty who picked up "To Go" bags, seventy-five percent reported back that they learned something about measuring techniques from the program. One participant shared that she had been cooking for quite sometime but learned how to "correctly level dry ingredients when placing them in a measuring cup."
The second topic in the series was Laundry Basics. Again, "To Go" bags were put together including information on how to correctly sort and wash laundry. A stain remover sample was included so that participants could practice at home. Once the "To Go" bags had been distributed, participants were encouraged to tune into Facebook for a video demonstration of how to sort, treat, wash and dry laundry. More than forty Laundry Basics bags were picked up and approximately four hundred eighty individuals were able to watch the Laundry Basics video. Of the forty who received a Laundry Basics bags, ninety percent reported back to have watched the video and found at least one "take away" technique to help them when doing laundry.
Due to the positive response and feedback, tt is planned that more "Back to the Basis" topics will be offered in the future.
