The Covid-19 Pandemic presented a challenge for Extension programs all over the nation and the Bullitt County Cooperative Extension Service answered the call by providing fun and educational weekly grab and go bags to families. Many projects were geared towards family life skill development for youth and adults where others were focused on life-skill development, promoting hands-on, and combating learning loss for youth. In preliminary studies, The Center for Research on Education Outcomes at Stanford University shows that the average Kentucky student presented nearly 20% learning loss in the 2019-2020 school year, in part due to schools being closed or operating virtually.

The Bullitt County Cooperative Extension Service presented a cross-program effort to address needs of youth and adults in Bullitt County through grab and go bags. The Grab and Go Bag Program handed out approximately 3,000 project kits to Bullitt County families from ages 3-75. Areas of focus were on health, nutrition, natural resources, expressive arts, horticulture, science, engineering, and technology, agriculture, and others. An added benefit to the reach that Extension provided was that many families participated in their first 4-H or Extension project through the Grab and Go Bag Program.
