Planning Unit: Marshall County CES
Major Program: Family Development General
Plan of Work: Healthy Living Lifestyles for Youth, Families & Community
Outcome: Initial Outcome
As Family & Consumer Sciences 'first responders', it became apparent that a variety of program delivery methods would be required in order to reach traditional participants and new Extension users during the Pandemic of 2020. The 'Lifelong Learning Series' materials were distributed throughout the Purchase area by mail, email and video segments with lessons about pest management, fermented foods, exercise, genealogy, air fryers, mental health and addiction. Audience reach included 20,200+ through social media platforms such as YouTube and Facebook, as well as 667 email listserv subscribers and 16,000 viewers through local cable access.
Participants responded to surveys via mail and online evaluations with valuable feedback related to topics such as: integrated pest management, reading labels, health benefits of certain foods and physical activity, and utilizing Extension resources to research family roots. Remarks from participants included: "Thank you for making all attempts to continue programs amid the COVID crisis," and "Thanks for giving us the opportunity to have inspiring lessons in this Pandemic time."
It has been determined that these methods of reaching Extension clientele will continue in the future as they have proven to assist in connecting valuable research-based information to those who enjoy life-long learning topics.
