The Boyle Co. High School annually grows a mixture of annuals, vegetables, houseplants and garden herbs as a part of their greenhouse classes. Students learn the science behind growing successful crops from seed as well as vegetative cuttings. The Boyle Co. Horticulture Agent worked closely with this group of students and their advisor to develop good integrated pest management skills, fertilizing schedules and other growing techniques so that the students could produce lush plants for their annual sale. Through their sale, the 20 greenhouse and FFA students sold over $20,000 worth of plants and will use that money to further fund greenhouse education, FFA conference trips and educational opportunities.
