Harrison County has been getting an influx of individuals moving in from non-farm backgrounds, purchasing small to moderate size farms and are needing assistance with learning the ropes of farming and what would be best suited for their new land purchase. Many of the individuals are coming into their new endeavor with little to no equipment to utilize for their beginning operation. The Harrison County Beef Cattle Association and the Harrison County Extension Office have partnered together to have rental equipment available for producers to utilize until they can afford something for themselves if they choose to do so.
This service has been especially helpful to those new farmers moving into the county that have little to no equipment and or experience. I will try to work it out to be at the office when the individuals pickup the equipment so that we can go over the ins and outs of everything with them so they are sure to have success and be safe. I will also go out to the farm and help them get setup if they are completely new to the whole process and just need a confidence booster before they utilize the equipment solo.
This rental equipment helps more than 300 farmers/ operations per year from Harrison and surrounding counties and we hope to continue to grow the selection of what we have available for rent in the coming years.
