More than 670,000 Kentuckians — roughly one-third of the commonwealth's workforce — filed for unemployment insurance for the first time from the week ending March 14 through the week ending May 2 in 2019. The coronavirus pandemic put a bigger share of Kentucky's workforce out of a job than almost any other state in America. In order to address the multidisciplinary financial repercussions of COVID-19; Kristi Shive, Warren County Family and Consumer Sciences Agent, hosted a Virtual Financial Education series on the Farm and Home Show. Kristi interviewed various Agents and Specialists from across the state to address some of the most critical areas that families were facing post COVID-19.
The Virtual Financial Education series included topics on: Estate Planning, Traveling on a Budget, Staycations, Fraud Alert, and more. The content of each subject matter was shared through the Farm and Show, which airs Monday – Friday between 5:15 AM and 5:30 AM. The outreach per segment is approximately 20,000. The total estimated outreach for the Virtual Financial Education series was 80,000.
Once the segments aired on WBKO they were then uploaded to Facebook and YouTube. Viewership increased up to 800 times. Delivering this education through the Farm and Home show, allowed the content to reach an abundance of individuals and families in South Central Kentucky.
