Planning Unit: Boyd County CES
Major Program: Master Gardener
Plan of Work: Best Management Practices in Home Horticulture
Outcome: Intermediate Outcome
Extension Master Gardener volunteers help to expand the outreach efforts of the Horticulture program in Boyd County. They are a vital part of Cooperative Extension Service in the community by helping to present educational programs using their gardening experiences and knowledge they have gained through the Master Gardener class and the educational programs they have at their monthly meetings. They volunteer to help plan and execute such extension programs as Farmers Market, the Holiday Wreath Program, the Master Gardener Class, the County Fair, Garden Shed Herb Day, Vegetable Field Day, as well as many informational booths at community events and the general upkeep of the Extension demonstration gardens and landscape. This year has been a challenge with all of the restrictions in place for Covid-19 but the Boyd County Master Gardeners were still able to donate a total of 648 hours of volunteer time towards Extension programming. This is a total value of $14,256 to the community.
