After attending the Kentucky Volunteer Forum in February 2020, one of my 4-H leaders attended the bee workshops.  She was so excited about the possibility of starting a bee club.  We do not have apace for bee hives at our Extension office.  A group has started that calls themselves Friends of Camp KYSOC.  This camp used to be the camp for Easter Seals back in the day.  Now  it is being rebuilt to be an environmental facility.  I called the manager and  asked was there anyway that Carroll County 4-H could be a collaborator with them and add  bees to tthe camp.  The manager was very excited about the idea.  I told her that we would like an observatory hive as well as a harvest hive and she said yes.  The leader and i  talked and she made of a list of needed equipment.  Immediately we ordered the materials, equipment and the bees.  The equipment and materials came.  But waited on the bees.  They had been shipped and  according to the tracking information they should have arrived at our office so I called the company to find out that the bees had died so the company cancelled the shipment. 

On May 1, 2021, the Friends of Camp KYSOC hosted an open house where my leader and I talked about the 4-H bee club and had hands on activities.  The attendees made honeycomb candles.  We also gave out honey sticks that was made from different plants and asked people to take them home and rate them to see which honey they liked best.  White clover was voted as the best tasting honey.  

Now for the bees. The leader and I picked up the bees and filled an observatory hive and a  harvest hive.

Once they were ready to be observed many families have visited.  The bees are multiplying and we are ordering more materials and equipment to add to the facility.  Our bee club has  12 members  at this time and will grow when we start a new 4-H year
