To address the need for improved forage quality and to increase farmer understanding of the economics of hay production a four night series titled “East Kentucky Hay School” held by the agents in Owsley, Lee, Wolfe and Breathitt Counties and a group of specialists from the University of Kentucky. Topics included Soils and Fertility, Warm and Cool Season Forage Crops, Weed Control, Hay Testing, Storage Facilities followed by a Hay Contest and Awards Ceremony. 60 Farmers in the four county area Participated in the workshops and more than 100 participated in the Hay contest. By show of Hands
