Author: Susan Fox

Planning Unit: Lyon County CES

Major Program: Horticulture, Consumer and Home

Plan of Work: Home Horticulture

Outcome: Intermediate Outcome

In response to the COVID pandemic, four of the Lyon County Extension Master Gardeners have prepared and taught five classes. These have been offered online or, as restrictions have eased, a combination of online and in-person. Classes included Weed Control in the Garden, Windowsill Herbs, Native Plants in the Landscape, Early Spring Vegetable Gardens, and Decorative Pots with Edible Plants and Flowers and a Plant a Pot for the Housing Authority. The Plant a Pot had 22 participants. Participants planted dwarf tomatoes, peppers, flowers, herbs and annual flowers in pots. Several presentations were recorded to Facebook Live. The five Facebook videos have received a combined total of 157 views.

In addition to the weed control presentation, the Master Gardeners have prepared a weed control demonstration in their demonstration garden which they plan to highlight in a summer garden event. They also have planted many heirloom vegetables for fun and added interest.
