4-H Livestock Project

Author: Katie Mills

Planning Unit: Christian County CES

Major Program: Agriculture

Plan of Work: Improving Basic Lifeskills, Well-being, and Quality of Life

Outcome: Intermediate Outcome

This year through the trying times with the pandemic, 4-H Livestock Project youth persevered and completed their educational hours.  The youth proved that they were dedicated to the program, their animals, and their responsibilities.  To be a youth showing livestock, it takes more than just completing paperwork.   They have to be responsible by meeting deadlines for tagging, validation forms and their educational hours.  On top of the deadlines, the youth are to take care of their animals every day by feeding, cleaning, and then practice with them.   This takes time and hard work, which is a wonderful life skill for all youth to have.  Our 4-H Livestock Project youth were determined to show their animal again this year whether it was at local fairs or onto the Kentucky State Fair.   This year the 4-H Livestock Project was able to gain one more youth to show cattle and with the help of the certified leaders, be prepared for the upcoming show season.  Each youth is excited that another show season is close.
