According to the CDC, regular handwashing, particularly before and after certain activities, is one of the best ways to remove germs, avoid getting sick, and prevent the spread of germs to others.  People need to vigorously wash their hands for about 15 to 20 seconds in kill any type of dangerous bacteria. Most people wash their hands for about six seconds. Without executing the correct hand sanitizing techniques, dirt and bacteria that would typically be sent down the drain stays on the hands and increases the host's likelihood of becoming seriously ill. The Fulton County Family and Consumer Sciences Agent and 4-H Youth and Development Agent partnered with Carr Elementary School to offer Germ Busters to all Kindergarten through 5th grades. Fulton City had several days where many students were absent from school due to various illnesses. Germ Busters class was requested by the School District Nurse. Germ Busters was done over the course of a week and reached 163 Kindergarten through Fifth grades. Over the past six years, the program has reached 860 youth educating them about the correct hand-washing steps, when to wash hands and the importance of hand-washing.
