Limited income and resources brings overwhelming stress to many individuals and families throughout the year and especially at the holiday season. For the second year, Knox and Whitley FCS Agents partnered to present a special workshop for the holidays. This workshop included presentations on: traditional, inexpensive recipes made healthier; holiday food safety; inexpensive gifts to make; and decorations made with things on hand. 40 people attended, and the holiday workshop was deemed a huge success with 39 participants stating they think this program is important to continue for next year.
A random survey of participants indicated these workshops not only helped greatly with family budgets, but also taught lifelong nutritional, time and money management skills. 95% of participants stated that this lesson helped them to understand ways to deal with holiday stress. 98% of participants stated that they learned low cost ways to make gifts and decorations. 75% of participants stated that they were very likely to make a gift or decoration they learned and 20% of participants stated that they somewhat likely to make a gift or decoration they learned.
