The City of Louisville/Jefferson Co. found itself in the middle of the racial justice/black lives matter movement nation wide due to the death of Breonna Taylor in Louisville, Ky. As a result, the Youth Service Center Coordinator from Waggener High School contacted Louis Milligan 4-H Agent in Jefferson Co. to discuss if we had any programs that would help assist with starting a conversation with their students around the topic of racial justice.
A zoom meeting was held to discuss possible program delivery modes and program implementation. The 10th Grade Social Studies Team was interested in offering conversations during their class periods. It was decided that we would use The Just In Time Equity Dialogues created by the National 4-H Program Leaders Working Group. It is a 6 week series that discuss 6 Topics:
1. Dialogue 1 All Lives Matter-Wright or Wrong?
2. Dialogue 2: What is Bias
3. Dialogue 3: Is Fair and Equal the Same Thing?
4. Dialogue 4: What do you mean Black Lives Matter?
5. Dialogue 5: Does Racism Still Exist?
6. Dialogue 6: Why do People Riot?
A schedule was developed to meet with with classes and on bi-weekly basis spread out of the rest of the school year ending May 31, 2021.
