During the fall of 2020 a state wide Beef Forum was help to identify issues and opportunities for focused Extension Beef programs. Alan Ahrman and Chad Bezold were the two beef cattle producers who represented Campbell County during this forum. They brought before this group of over 125 KY beef producers the idea (as did other farmers) of a state wide master finisher/freezer beef program. This idea was discussed during at the Campbell County Cattle Association program planning Zoom meeting and was given a high priority in developing into a freezer beef series. Based on the need for this program, Boone, Kenton and the Campbell County ANR agents developed what was called Freezer Beef Bootcamp.
This four part webinar used UK Extension Specialists and Northern KY ANR agents to address the following topics: nutrition and management of finishing cattle, laws and regulations of the meat industry, processing, marketing and economics and starting a freezer beef operation. Thirty eight individuals from northern KY and around the state attended this program.
