One of the most rewarding aspects of working during Covid-19 has been the engagement of youth leaders in FCS Extension and community programs. Through partnership with the 21st Century Community Service Club, an average of 14 high school leaders have participated in the monthly commodities food distribution program since November. Many of these young leaders are virtual and co-op students who voluntarily give of their time because they understand the impact of hunger on our families. Furthermore, youth leaders are recording video public service announcements targeting chronic disease, cancer, and health observances in collaboration with the school’s media club that are being distributed via both school district and Extension social media. Their messages are powerful and dynamic. Our community is fortunate to have young people invested in giving back and lending a helping hand. No doubt these leaders are well positioned to help solve community problems big or small in the future.
