Situation:  Due to COVID-19 and a virtual learning schedule some of the traditional school garden produce could not be used by the school food service.  The could use the grape tomatoes, broccoli, cauliflower, and cucumbers along with some bell peppers.  Things like cantaloupe, cabbage, and sweetcorn were not as easy to deal with.  We gave some to the local food pantry to avoid wasting it, but we asked if we could give it away to the families in cars as they picked up meals for students.
We gave away several hundred cantaloupes, several cabbage, some sweetcorn from the late patch, and ended up giving away over 500 pumpkins to these families. The families were very glad to get this high quality school garden produce. It was rewarding to help put a smile on the face of people who were going through a difficult time.
