Covid 19 has presented many challenges. Our Leaders and staff have adapted as best we could.
We have conducted Speech, Demonstration mock interviews, even Gold and Emerald interviews remotely.
We have also done many “Grab Bag” programs during the Covid 19.
Several garden kits 800 units total with different mixes, herbs, peppers, tomatoes, squash, etc/.l. These all included several SNAP recipes, and Plate it Up materials. Plus excerpts form ID 128 as well as a web link to that and other publications. In the fall, we did a grab bag on making and canning Salsa utilizing the tomatoes and peppers grown by 4-Hers from their garden kits.
Water Fun kit.
Carpenter bee trap kits. With instructions. (100)
Bird House kits, with instructions, and paint (122)
Wooden Tool Box kit (86)
Cane Pole fishing kit (54) including cane, line, floaters, hooks, stringer etc. Included SNAP recipes for fish and other Plate it up type giveaways.
Straw Rocket kits (100) Principles of flight. Kit included straws, stickers, mailing labels, and instructions from 4-H Aerospace Curriculum.
While these grab bags aren’t as involved as our usual project groups or day camps, we have kept in touch with our core 4-Hers, and helped them to have some new experiences.
We conducted our 4-H Shooting sports program socially distanced, and our Butler co. and 32 of our Butler co. youth won trophies. Some in several categories.
Greg Drake our Ag. Agent and Tom Ballinger our incoming state bee keepers president, and a local producer, have been super helpful, answering dozens of questions, and teaching us how to start a hive, how to capture a hive, conduct an hive inspection etc.
We have conducted Speech, Demonstration mock interviews remotely,
We converted the speech contest of the 4-H Country Ham project into an “essay” contest to preserve social distancing.
We have continued to add new leaders who have been through horse, dog, livestock, and shooting sports trainings either virtually, or hybrid. The continued development of leaders during this pandemic, both shows our success of the past, and indicates that great possibilities for the future.
