4-H Grab-N-Go Bags

Author: Ralph Hance

Planning Unit: Trimble County CES

Major Program: Science, Engineering, and Technology

Plan of Work: Unrelated to a specified County Plan of Work

Outcome: Initial Outcome

This year, due to COVID-19, County programing was changed like never before.  Schools was closed, and people was not allowed to gather.  This makes the job of a  County 4-H Agent very hard, as we had to change all of our programing from hands on to virtual and self studies.  In Trimble county, and across the state, the County 4-H Agent gathered supplies and equipment to supply residents of Trimble County youth the opportunity to continue learning valuable, fun and interactive lessons while remaining safe at home.

The Agent supplied 40 Grab-N-Go Kits for the residents of Trimble County so far this year.  Our first big Grab-N-Go kits was the National Youth STEM Challenge that goes along with the Mars mission.  Within this kit, participants are provided youth handbooks, links to online video tutorials and how to's to help them put their kits together, and how to do each lesson.  The kits included building their own Mars Rover, a computer programming lesson, and even on or offline options so that even participants without great internet service can still participate.

I believe this STEM Challenge kit and all of our Grab-N-Go bags have helped our community not only with educational instructions, but also with getting our services out to clientele who normally would not have been involved with traditional programing.
