4-H At Home

Author: Wade Raymer

Planning Unit: Webster County CES

Major Program: Communications and Expressive Arts

Plan of Work: Life Skills for Everyone

Outcome: Initial Outcome

When the COVID-19 global pandemic forced Kentuckians into quarantine youth and families began spending more time at home, minimizing opportunities for youth to engage in typical extracurricular activities. In order to keep Webster County 4-H members engaged in 4-H, At home projects were developed and implemented.  The goal of the At Home projects was to maintain ways for youth and families to engage with 4-H projects, events and activities while learning new life skills through a trusted source with the University of Kentucky College of Agriculture, Food, and Environment Cooperative Extension Service. Over several months, over 300 take home kits, pre-recorded videos and zoom meetings engaged 4-H member to complete projects.  Projects included: Woodworking, Painting, Arts & Crafts, Entomology, SET, Communications, Electricity and Gardening.  One parent stated “We loved working on some of the projects as a family, all the different projects allowed my kids to do something educational and hands on, instead of playing video games”
