~~The Bracken County Family and Consumer Science Council continues to partner with the Bracken County Health Department to bring the importance of prenatal and health care for young children to our county by hosting the annual Baby Gala.  This is an educational program designed to make all citizens aware of the services available for first time parents and those with children under the age of 5.  A total of 12 community partners participated in the Baby Gala in September 2017.  This event is free and  covered topics such as breastfeeding, car seat safety, childcare, literacy, insurance coverage, pediatrician services, immunizations, pre-school, nutrition, and more.  Demonstrations were done on healthy portion sizes for young children, car seat installation and safety, and a question and answer session for parents with a nurse.  Each family won a door prize that was donated by the community partners.  A total of 15 families participated in the Gala.  An evaluation was completed by each family.  75% of the families reported learning of a new service available to them and information that was helpful.  100% of the families reported that the event is very nice and much needed.  For the healthy portion size demonstrations that the Bracken County Family and Consumer Science Agent demonstrated 90% could identify the correct amount when given a test.
