Planning Unit: Mason County CES

Major Program: Nutrition and Food Systems General

Outcome: Long-Term Outcome

While Covid-19 stilled played a huge role in limiting in-person programs, it did not prevent educational opportunities and information from reaching adults and youth in Mason County.  The Expanded Foods and Nutrition Education Program Assistant, along with Mason County Extension 4-H and Horticulture Agents partnered to provide “Pumpkin Palooza,” a weekly family interactive outreach program that provided hands-on family activities, nutritious recipes with educational information, Halloween safety tips, and resources.  Each Friday in October, a follow-along video was released that accompanied the Grab and Go bag that families could pick up during a safe drive-thru event at the Extension Office.  One week, 100 pumpkins with carving kits were given out along with 250 Grab & Go bags.  This program greatly benefited youth in Maysville’s Boys and Girls Club and targeted families living in low-income housing.
