Beef Management Webinar Series Meeting Training Needs During A Pandemic

Planning Unit: Jessamine County CES
Major Program: Beef
Plan of Work: Sustainable and Profitable Agriculture
Outcome: Initial Outcome
While the Jessamine County Extension Office has had to limit in-persons meetings due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the U.K. Beef Extension group has hosted a weekly webinar series for beef cattle producers and agents. Topics have included Bull Selection, Reproductive Management, Value Added Marketing, Management Technologies, Nutrition Advancements, Risk Management, Winter Feeding, Beef Structures and Cattle Handling Facilities. These have been live streamed on Zoom and Facebook and all sessions were recorded and uploaded to YouTube and made available for later viewing. The Zoom logins have averaged about 65 producers and agents per session, with Facebook Live adding another 200+ engagements. The YouTube videos have also been popular averaging over 100 views per uploaded video. Due to the fact that in-person meetings have been limited, these sessions have provided beef producers with up-to-date information and have been an excellent resource in assuring that Jessamine County producers can complete their educational requirements for the CAIP cost-share program from the safety of their own home. Program coordinators have received many compliments on the program including the following comment received via email “I wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed and learned from the webinars this spring. Thanks to all the presenters, each did a great job. I look forward to the new ones each month. Thanks again.”. The U.K. Beef Extension Group plans to continue to produce these Beef Management webinars into the Spring of 2021.
