Supplying supplemental food to senior citizens on limited incomes is a rewarding task.  In collaboration with the KY Dept of Ag CSPF program/God's Pantry Food Bank, Morgan County Extension homemakers volunteer to package 324 food boxes monthly.  This effort supplies 600 lbs. of cheese, 300 qts shelf stable fluid milk, 300 packages dry instant milk, 300 half gallons of fruit juice, 900 cans of fruit, 1200 cans each of 2 different vegetables 600 boxes cereal, 600 lbs. pasta, 600 lbs. plant based protein (peanut butter) and 300 cans vegetarian beans, 300 pouches beef stew and 300 pouches of chicken along with 150 lbs. fresh potatoes/month.  This food supply will serve one person about half a months food supply to supplement their regular food purchases.  It allows families to thrive rather than sacrifice food for medicine.  Extension FCS shares recipes for the many products that are offered along with plate it up KY proud recipes and other nutritional recipes for helping families vary food menus.

Participants have had food preservation information, food preparation, food safety along with gardening and growing their own foods.  Definitely a win win for all.
