4-H Livestock Members Recognized in Unique Banquet Ceremony

Author: Katie Wallace

Planning Unit: Elliott County CES

Major Program: Agriculture

Plan of Work: Youth Agriculture outreach in the community

Outcome: Initial Outcome

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic our 4-H livestock show and sale was cancelled. Our 4-H livestock club members, their families, and our community were saddened but understanding about the cancellation. Our annual 4-H livestock show and sale is a staple of the community in September as the kickoff to the Tobacco Festival. As a celebration of their hard work 4-H members are recognized at a banquet in October where they are also presented a check from the sale of their animal.

Even though our show and sale was cancelled we still wanted to celebrate our members hard work and dedication in this difficult year. Our 4-H livestock club partnered with our local farm bureau board to host a drive thru banquet. During this banquet members were given a club t-shirt and a check from farm bureau. This was a great opportunity for recognition for members. A concern of our club leadership was that cancellation of our show and sale would hinder club moral and membership in the coming program year. By having this drive thru banquet we were able to connect with our members and get them excited for our club moving forward.
