2020 has seen many activities/events canceled due to COVID19, including the Boone County Fair. The Boone County Extension Service, along with the Boone County Fair Board, felt it was important to give our 4-H youth a little bit of “normalcy” by holding all the 4-H livestock & horse shows along with 4-H cloverville.
The 4-H livestock shows were held over 3 days with the 4-H horse show occurring on the 4th day. A total of 51 different 4-H’ers participated in the livestock shows and 4-H country ham project with 8 youth participating in the 4-H horse show. An on-line auction replaced the usual end of fair 4-H market animal sale generating $96, 826 for our youth.
4-H cloverville had a total of 28 youth who entered 150 items in Horticulture, Electric, Wood Science, Ecology, Forestry, Arts, Photography, Needlework, Foods, Home Environment, and Kentucky 4-H Trends. A total of $391.00 was paid out in premiums.
One 4-H member stated how pleased she was to be able to show off her hard work while one parent commented on how appreciative their family was to have the opportunity to show their livestock projects since a lot of the district and expo shows were cancelled.
