Constructing and re-constructing farm fences can be  a mundane  yet expensive task. During the Plan of Work process in 2019, the Muhlenberg County Extension Council asked that the Extension Service provide information on new types of farm fences and construction methods. The Muhlenberg ANR agent hosted  a one day fencing school on October 1, 2019 that included classroom and on site construction of a fence at the Muhlenberg County  Cooperative Extension Service office.  Twenty one Muhlenberg County producers attended the day long program. Jeremy McGill, a local beef producer and Gallagher Fence sales representative and Clay Brewer, Stay Tuff  Fence representative were on hand to demonstrate and explain the correct way to construct high tensil fences and their components. Clint Quarles,  Attorney at Law and Kentucky Department of Agriculture representative also discussed fencing laws. Although no formal survey was conducted at the conclusion of the program; several producers commented that the program was one of the best the Extension service had done in  a while. One producer commented, "we need to have Mr. Quarles back to a cattlemen's meeting to discuss the topic more in depth".  Another producer that attended the program invited me to his farm in the summer of 2020. While on the farm, the producer  mentioned his fence. He pointed out to me that he had utilized the information he gained at the fencing school to construct a new high tensil fence. He said, " I learned a lot at the fencing school and i built this fence the right way." He then pointed to his older fence and said " I see where a made mistakes when i constructed that fence.  The Cooperative Extension Service continues to be a relevant source of practical real world information that can be utilized daily.
