The year 2020 has been a difficult year to get information out to the farming community. The help of news letters and webinars has kept most farmers informed of information they need.
As a KSU Small Farm Assistant I was able to take phone calls, text messages and emails with the under served audiences I work with. I was able to get the small farmers in the Wayne County area the KSU Small Farmer Grant Applications and the Wayne County CAIP Cost Share Applications so they could apply for these funds.
Small Farmers have used the KSU Small Farmer Grants they have received to built greenhouses, built on farm marketing structures in Food Deserts where there is no grocery store in five miles. This has help the community where this is built to buy fresh produce through out the year.
The Wayne County CAIP Cost Share program has helped small cattle producers with their infrastructure plans to built fencing , improve feeding systems and provide clean water to their cattle herds of 5-20 head.
The thousands of dollars these programs have provided has kept small farmers in business for another year to provide an abundant food supply to Wayne Countians.
