The Covid 19 Pandemic has halted, slowed, or altered so many aspects of life, for everyone. In 2020, the Bath County 4-H overall program has been impacted like no other year. Club Work has gone to face to face to now virtually format. 2 Clubs have been halted due to the fact that they can't be performed unless in person and/or weather dictated. Bath County School District (4 schools) and Bath County 4-H collaboration hasn't happened for the 2020-2021 program, as of December. Meetings with various grade teachers and F. Y. S. R. C. have taken place, but the little result has occurred because county schools have been in person for only two weeks/hybrid format. These are just a few examples of how Bath County 4-H has been impacted.
After witnessing how successful the Bath County Family & Consumer Science Program, "On The Go" Efforts was well accepted, numerous meetings with state 4-H agents on creative programming, and presentations on county dynamic efforts, Bath County 4-H put together a program that wanted families/youth to attain numerous goals. "Holiday Crafts On The Go Program" goals/mission was to bring family cohesion, allow youth to be creative in expressive arts, conduct challenging, fun activities, and attain nutritious N. E. P. Recipes that can be completed. Just picking up a quick complete packet would be just busy work and from reports from parents/youth, they are tired of meaningless assignments. For three days in December, a special themed craft, lesson/activity, and N. E. P. Recipe were available to be picked up at the Extension Office.
After promotion through monthly 4-H Newsletter and Bath County Extension Facebook Page, calls, social media contacts, and office visits were done to learn how to attain the packets. By day two of "Holiday Crafts On The Go Program", all packets were distributed with requests for more. Each day had 12 youth attaining packets. Youth ages 3-16 received a packet. The gender breakdown was 75% female/25% male. From verbal reports, youth who lived in Housing Authority arrangements received packets, youth wanting to be challenged with hands-on activity received some, youth who looked forward to utilizing NEP Recipes couldn't wait to cook for family and self. Based on how successful the "Holiday Crafts On The Go Program" was similar efforts are being planned for spring months if the current Pandemic Guidelines are being enforced.
