Madison County 4-H Shooting Sports has traditionally been a seasonal club. The CES Agent noticed that the participants do not participate in other 4-H programs so in order for this group to feel a sense of belonging it was decided to make it an all year club. Once the decision was made the CES Agent recruited a Shooting Sports Coordinator (something that the Madison County 4-H Program has not had in 13 years) and told her of the plan. The CES Agent worked with the Coordinator in forming a plan for the whole year. Then a pandemic happened. We were not able to have an actual in person season this year but we continued with the idea of all year round club meetings.
The CES created a Facebook page for the club as well as getting the information out about the monthly Zoom meetings. The CES presented what 4-H clubs look like with officers and pledges. During a recent meeting, the club participants elected the first ever Madison County 4-H Shooting Sports Club Officers. This group will continue to meet through out the social distancing virtually but will find creative ways to do lessons on firearm and bow safety, maintenance, building skills, youth development, and citizen stewardship.
