4-H Project Kits

Planning Unit: Lincoln County CES

Major Program: Communications and Expressive Arts

Outcome: Initial Outcome

In March of 2020, the Lincoln County Extension Service began a transition to remote programming as closures from the Coronavirus pandemic loomed. In an effort to continue engaging youth in 4-H programming the 4-H Project Library was created. This included independent project work through grab & go project kits. Utilizing existing supplies, a 12-week program was created, focusing on different 4-H curriculum. Kits were available outside the main office doors and included in each bag was: UK Wally Cat hand washing flier, 4-H enrollment form, and contact/social media information.  Over the span of three months, over 1,500 project kits were created and picked up. Parents were very appreciative of the bags, stating that during this time, their children had something to do that was educational and hands-on, instead of simple technology driven. Many parents sent in pictures of their child with a completed project that was then posted on the county’s Facebook page. This project was also directly responsible for 27 new youth enrolling in Lincoln County 4-H for the first time. Many of these youth have continued their participation throughout the summer and fall.
