The Lawrence County Agriculture and Natural Resource Agent (ANR) and Family and Consumer Science Agent (FCS) hosted a 6 part series of workshops targeted at individuals who are looking to conserve on in home energy, start a compost pile, and how to limit their use of harsh chemicals in the home. Individuals in the community attended these sessions in the hopes of gaining new knowledge in order to provide a healthier home for their families and reduce living expenses as much as possible. The FCS agent taught classes on green cleaning, home repair and upcycling, and food safety for emergencies. The ANR agent taught classes on Pest Control, Composting and Recycling, and Winter Preparation. There were a total of 12 participants, 62.5% of individuals reported they had gained new knowledge from the Healthy Homes Series, and 75% of participants reported they would use and develop this information gained from the series in their daily lives. During the Pest Control workshop 62% of participants said they could explain at least one way to remove unwanted pests from their home and 87.5% of participants reported that they could explain basic steps of winter preparation for their homes. This series helped and will continue to help the community better understand and put into action ways to make their homes more energy efficient, greener, and safer for the families of Lawrence County.
