Plan of Work: Home Gardening, Food Preservation, and Food Preparation
Outcome: Initial Outcome
Due to the pandemic, educational information had to be delivered differently. The Family and Consumer Sciences agent worked with community agencies to prepare materials appropriate for the audience and arrange for the information to be included in these multi-agency endeavors. The local health department sponsored a Drive Thru health fair reaching approximately 100 during the two hour event, the WIC office prepared a monthly mailout to their families enrolled in WIC and invited Extension to include information which reached over 900 each month, the local Food Pantries encouraged and appreciated information on food safety, storage, preparation, and recipes for items included in each food box. The Food Pantries provided food and information to over 500 individuals each month. A drive thru event for 200 grandparents raising grandchildren included both nutrition information and parenting information. Nutrition information was included in the school lunches that were delivered daily to students.
Extension has reached families through these endeavors that have never had contact with Extension before. Due to these efforts, Extension has received calls from new clientele requesting information on gardening, food preservation, and preparation as well as requests for other information provided by the Extension Office.
