Container Garden project

Planning Unit: Jackson County CES

Major Program: Nutrition and Food Systems General

Outcome: Initial Outcome

Even during a pandemic the Jackson County Cooperative Extension service found a way to serve the community. The SNAP-Ed program assistant partnered with 4-H, ANR   and several community groups and local businesses to do a Container Garden Project.  A total of 75 gardening kits were given to families  at a drive through at the Jackson County Cooperative Extension office.   The container gardening kits contained gardening supplies, seeds and plants, information packets and everything needed for the kids to plant, and watch their fresh vegetables grow. By doing this project with our community we were able to encourage parents to garden, cook, and preserve their own fresh fruits and vegetables.  This project was a huge success, several parents have sent in picture of the growing process, kids cooking in the kitchen and food preservation pictures.
