4-H has made an impact on this student’s life by helping her to develop overall leadership skills as well as knowledge of the dairy animal, the dairy industry, and its benefit to her future.
This student began her 4-H education, by participating in the County Ham project at the age of nine, where she was the State Champion in her age division. She has since participated in Dairy Showing, Dairy Judging, Public Speaking, Dairy Jeopardy, Dairy U, and State Dairy Cow Camp.
At an early age she attended the Kentucky State Fair to participate in a pageant. However, after a visit to the dairy barn she fell in love with the cows.
Her interests and 4-H projects from that day on have included showing dairy cattle at the local, district, state, and national shows. She is a member of the Metcalfe County 4-H LegenDairy Team. She then qualified for the State 4-H Judging Team. They competed at the All-American Invitational Dairy Judging Contest in Harrisburg, PA where she placed 9th as intermediate showman, 7th place individual in Jersey judging, 2nd place team in Jersey judging, and 15th individual overall.
4-H has prepared her for many leadership roles. She is the first and only student director to serve on the Edmonton-Metcalfe County Chamber of Commerce. She is also a reporting member of the newly formed Hornet News Network (HNN) at Metcalfe County High School.
“Because of 4-H Dairy, I’ve made a ton of new friends and seen a lot of places that I’ll never forget. Thanks to judging trips, dairy shows, clinics, and the opportunity to be around dairy cattle, I’ve found my calling and career path. I wouldn’t be who I am today without 4-H Dairy.”
