Allen County, KY Is 64% below the Snap threshold 130% poverty. Allen County Cooperative Extension Office, Allen County SNAP-Ed program, Allen County Schools all team together and during the time that the children were unable to attend school and with Allen County being 64% poverty. This was a great concern for the community. So while everyone was on lock down the community partnered up with other community members. The Allen County School system really worked hard on making sure that the children of Allen County were feed.
So from March 2020 til May 2020 the school system got volunteers to come in and help prepare the food that the children of Allen County would receive. The school buses started out delivering 2 meals a day to the children of Allen County. This consisted of a breakfast and a lunch meal daily. There were 3090 children that received meals daily. This was done to ensure that the children of Allen County would not go hungry. Then the School system decided that they meal delivery would go to 2 times a week.
There were a total of 3090 children that need the food assistant. The school system provided a breakfast and lunch for the children. Meals were delivered from March 16th, 2020 through May 13th, 2020. Over this time period there was a total of 389,970 meals were delivered to the youth of Allen County. These meals were for any child that lived in Allen County from the age of 1 up to graduation.
