Outcome: Initial Outcome

The COVID-19 pandemic continues to impact the daily lives of Kentucky citizens in many ways.  People have experienced an interruption in routine, increase in stress, and an onset of new challenges related to health and wellness.   In order to promote practices for positive well-being, the Washington County Extension Family and Consumer Sciences Agent partnered with the Washington County Public Library for a program series on Self Care.

The Family and Consumer Sciences Agent created lessons using information from the Keys to Embracing Aging research-based curriculum.  The first lesson focused on Mental Self Care and included the topics of socialization, mental stimulation, physical activity, nutrition, and sleep.  The second lesson highlighted Physical Self Care with discussion on eating, moving, and resting.  The final lesson was about Emotional Self Care, concentrating on stress management, positive attitude, and taking time for you.  Due to social distancing guidelines, the lessons were recorded and published on Facebook.

Facebook insights from the Washington County Public Library and Washington County Extension pages report that the total estimated reach was 2,115 for the video lessons.  Comments on the posts included “This is such a great service” and “Great series!”  The Family and Consumer Sciences Agent will continue to provide programming that supports wellness in Washington County.
