Author: Sherri Farley

Planning Unit: Campbell County CES

Major Program: Camping

Plan of Work: 4-H Youth Development - Leadership

Outcome: Initial Outcome

Due to the pandemic and the move to remote learning the University of Kentucky Campbell County Extension 4-H Youth Development program offered multiple virtual day camps over the summer months. Over 160 youth participated ranging in age from 5-14 years old. 4-H projects were highlighted during the day camps such as arts, Home Environment, Woodworking, Baking, and Horticulture. A face mask holder Zoom was also held and will be utilized in several Google Meet classroom settings this fall. Families sent in pictures of the youth's completed projects, these pictures were included in the monthly 4-H newsletter. Parents appreciated the opportunity for their children to have constructive use of their time when so much was cancelled, such as sports, camps, and vacations. They also appreciated the interactive and engaging manner of the day camps and the high quality of projects offered.  Comments included: "I'm grateful that you are doing so many fun activities over zoom! It will help make the summer much more fun!", "We love these classes & they bring my kids so much joy and I can see the positive difference it makes in them", and "We appreciate you keeping our children safe by doing the Zoom day camps, but appreciate more that you made the effort to keep the camps going instead of just canceling them."
