Sizzlin’ Summer Series

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the University of Kentucky has taken matters into their own hands to spice up programming. One of the new series that has occurred because of the Coronavirus has been the Sizzlin’ Summer Series. This was a 7 week series that included topics such as: Outdoor Activities, Thrill the Grill, Fire up the 4th, #OperationSunshine, Summer Melt, Oh the Places We Can Go, and #KYLovesAg. To finish off the series, there was a 5K/10K race you could participate in.

Each week of the series the Lee County Extension Office had grab-n-go bags that coordinated with the theme of the series that week. The bags included educational activities, hands on projects, recipes, and more. The total number of grab n go bag participants from all 7 weeks was; 1,363.

Week 1: 169 Participants

Week 2: 200 Participants

Week 3: 195 Participants

Week 4: 179 Participants

Week 5: 188 Participants

Week 6: 228 Participants

Week 7: 204 Participants

Each week the bags had a Sizzlin’ Summer evaluation that the participants could participate in. Lee County ended up having the most surveys completed, statewide.

As for the Sizzlin’ Summer 5K/10K race, Lee County had a variety of people participate. The youngest person to participate was 23 years old and the oldest was 76 years old. So, a wide range of age participation. Lee County also had the most people participate in the Sizzlin’ Summer 5K/10K.
