2020 Mask Makers
Twenty-Twenty offered an entire new look to Volunteers in Extension. Homemakers in Rowan County did not hesitate with what they do best, “Volunteering.” Two Homemakers got a mask pattern, got their sewing equipment out and set up a cutting room in their kitchen, an ironing and sewing station in their living room. Donations of elastic, fabric and thread started pouring in to assist on the production of supplying mask to those in need. Mask where made for front line workers, nursing homes, medical worker, friends, local government agencies; Mayor, Judge, Court House staff, Homemakers, schoolchildren, sport teams, banks and complete strangers in 12 states. Four thousand and sixty six (4066) mask have been completed during this pandemic.
The mask used 508.25 yards of fabric, 1355 yards of elastic, 135 spools of thread, 10 needles, 75-85 envelopes/packages, 10 rotate cutter blades, 1 cutting mat and several Band-Aids. Area residents assisted with the supplies donations such as fabric, elastic, thread, envelops, postage, money to use for supplies and meals of appreciation. All mask where given away and no one was turn down that sent a request of 1 or 30.
Our Judge Executive recognized our Homemakers for a job well done in a time of need by sending official letters to each of them.
