Outcome: Initial Outcome
During the pandemic Spencer County Extension Agents have had to pivot their programing, much like everyone else, to online platforms. This is so that we can still reach much needed audiences. Every Wednesday our program assistant demos a Kentucky Proud or SNAP recipe though our county extension Facebook page. Not only does she provide the recipe step by step with our audience, she gives them detailed cooking and safety instruction. Such as, knife safety, appliance safety, hand washing, and food safety. Recipes that have been demoed are breakfast hash, lettuce wraps, summer garden pie, pulled pork autumn salad, etc.
As this is an ongoing program the FCS Agent meets with the program assistant each week to plan out which recipes and ingredients to use. The FCS agent also films the Facebook Live as the program assistant is demoing it. Our 4-H agent has helped with filming and getting packets together when we distribute them. The Ag agent has helped with equipment set up for videos.
The Facebook Live cooking demos have been viewed by many from homemakers to 4-Hers. When asked some explained that they never had time to learn how to properly cook and this has allowed them to practice easy recipes on their own time, being that they can refer back to the videos on our Facebook page at any time. Learning how to cook quick inexpensive meals provides families with cost savings, healthy options, and more time for family.
