Outcome: Initial Outcome

The COVID-19 has turned our lives upside down and has been challenging on how to provide services to our community. In person programming has been canceled, leaving us looking for ways to reach these clientele in the community. To address this issue the Wolfe County Cooperative Extension Service, Nutrition Education Assistant partnered with the Family and Consumer Science Agent to provide a different form of programming. An online cooking challenge called “Chopped: Extension Edition” was created. Families were asked to come up with healthy recipes using mystery ingredients that were provided by the Family & Consumer agent. Five families participated in three rounds, and created healthy recipes. Each round was judged on creativity, appearance, and the use of all ingredients.

All 5 participants reported that they learned to be more aware and to use what items they had on hand to make a healthy recipe. One participant stated, “I had no idea that I could make a healthy recipe from scratch using what I already had on hand.” Another participant stated, “Even though we are in a difficult time this challenge has helped us by being able to spend more time with our family and keeping our minds positive.”
