Outcome: Long-Term Outcome
One week after creating the Facebook page, we had to pivot to online marketing and programming due to COVID-19. The SNAP-Ed assistant working from home used this time to market her program to both counties. The FCS agent began to assist her in recording and posting food preparation videos. The platform's content included the monthly recipes from the SNAP Nutrition Calendar, Chop Chop and Seasoned Newsletters, and basic cooking demonstrations videos on Mama Mia Pizza Pockets. The content was focused on utilizing foods distributed in the alternative COVID-19 school feeding program, also covering topics such as basic knife skills, kitchen, and food safety. The reach on these videos was a total of 2,747.
Since the creation of the Facebook page, 576 people have either liked or now follow the Hickman/Carlisle County Nutritional Education program page. It is hoped that this reach will continue to increase, providing helpful information to more families to recruit Individuals for the Healthy Choices for Everybody groups.
To reach a broad citizen base, the Hickman/ Carlisle County NEP program, along with FCS agents and other community partners, reached 925 families with 3,500 packets or newsletters of nutrition and healthy living print materials. While the behavior change data could not be collected on all of these outreach methods, we infer that the nutritional message and branded materials will create a sense of name recognition. Social media and print materials filled in the gap during a time when face-to-face programming was prohibited.
