Outcome: Long-Term Outcome
The Carlisle County paraprofessional provided Healthy Choices for Everybody lessons during the distribution of commodities, having an attendance of approximately 20 participants. In March 2020, the pandemic of the COVID-19 closed all physical locations for in-person sessions; therefore, the sessions could not take place. Additionally, due to the shutdown, there were no longer volunteers to prepare the commodities for distribution. Carlisle County Extension was able to fill in the gap.
Along with the Family and Consumer Science Agent, the SNAP-Ed Assistant went to the senior citizen center to bag the family’s commodities bi-weekly. Information packets were also placed in each bag. Information packets contained a Healthy at Home newsletter, SNAP recipes to go along with commodities, food safety, and food storage. The contacts increased to 140 county residents.
In September, a new contributor, Wave Ag, provided seventy-five $10.00 gift cards to a local grocery to purchase fresh fruits, vegetables, and meats. This partnership allows for more families to be reached and reduce food insecurity in Carlisle County. The Nutrition Education program will continue to reach food-insecure families through this new partnership and provide nutritional messages to a greater audience
