Success Story 2019/2020

Hancock County Cooperative Extension, Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program, Facebook Group

On August 14, 2020 Hancock County Cooperative Extension, Expanded Food and Education Program (EFNEP) decided to start its’s first Facebook live group.  With it being the first it was decided to start out with a small group, to be able to get everything worked out.  There was 4 women asked to join the group to participate in 7 nutrition lessons.

The ladies all preferred the questionnaire to be in paper form, so entry paper work was dropped off to them, to keep a personal touch involved.   The clients are very important so at drop off, they were asked about some of their family’s nutritional habits and anything that they would like to learn more about with nutrition, or if they needed info about the help office.

By offering this Facebook live class, the clients could watch at the best time for them, but still be involved in the comments and interact during, if they wanted to.  During the classes all 4 ladies watched and participated in some way, it could have been in the Facebook comments or reached out to me by phone.  After all the lessons had been watched by each lady, I delivered the exit paper work and talked with each lady about how her family was trying to improve.  As an overall, the group improved in serval areas, such as, the diet quality went up 46%. Their physical activity went up 50%, and the food management up 50%.  With this year being different then our normal, EFNEP was still able to help people learn, talk, and grow together.
