Success Story 2019/2020

Hancock County Nutrition Education Program, Facebook Page

When coronavirus started and all Hancock County Cooperative Extension office staff were told they should start working remotely, the nutrition program at Hancock County wanted to make sure we were reaching the community. The best way to do that was by starting a Facebook page.  Hancock County Cooperative Extension, Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP) wanted to make sure nutrition information was easy for people to reach.

The Hancock County Nutrition Education Program page became a great way to keep in contact with the community.  The page offers great recipes, that wasn’t only easy to make, but was cost efficient. ENFEP also posted kid friendly recipes, to keep kids involved in learning good nutritional habits.

The nutrition page has become a great source for not only recipes, but also shares information about the local food pantry, church and their give a ways, the health department and the family recourse center in Hancock County. In the past month alone the site has reached 1,599 people.  By reaching this many people in Hancock County it’s helping us to make should even without being face to face EFNEP is still able to get nutritional information out to the community.  More than that, the page is keeping helpful information at the fingertips of the clients.   Often after the series of classes NEP offers is done being taught, we may not see those clients for a few years, but this way, they can still stay up to date with great information and new recipes that come out!
