Ways to Eat Well Wednesday Continues

A group meeting that began over a year ago was named “Ways to Eat Well Wednesday”.  The name was used because Wednesday was the day participants could also pick up their commodity box.  The group was comprised of senior citizens and their guest as they took it upon themselves to recruit attendees to “help me out”.   The group was established by providing the convenience of picking up the boxes without having to wait in line.  The NEP assistant put together and held the food boxes until the next day.  After many months of successful meetings, sadly  as a result of COVID restrictions the meetings would not be possible. The assistant was concerned the group would dissolve., but knew this was a vulnerable population and the precautions were necessary.

To provide a useful service and keep up with this group of clients, the NEP assistant offered drive up service, wearing a mask, wheeling the boxes to the cars, providing recipes, lessons and the occasion NEP incentive to the boxes.  The most surprising is that the box recipients inquire about when the in person meetings will resume.   It is encouraging to know that even when offered the no-wait, to your car delivery, the participants value the program and want to spend an hour with us monthly when the meetings resume.  Just staying in touch is a head start for the day when regular programming will be possible.
